Welcome to Celtic Fire, Ltd. - a full service destination for bagpipes and bagpipe accessories.
For the last several months we've been busy with some special projects - some product development (more on that another time) and some back-office database coding
(you don't want to hear about this!). It's time to come up for air and update our Featured Products. Actually, this time around, it's more of a featured person. We'd like to introduce you to the Scottish smallpipe maker Ian Kinnear.
Ian hails from Angus, near Dundee in Scotland. Ian started learning the pipes as a lad of 10 under John MacDougall and David Taylor. He's played Highland pipes with Scottish Gas (you may recall their CD Out of the Blue) and latterly with Lothian & Borders Police Pipe Band. Ian's also very active in the Angus traditional music scene playing smallpipes, teaching and doing workshops.
Ian began making Scottish smallpipes in 1993 and it was about 1999 that we at Celtic Fire started our association with him. When Ian teaches, his emphasis is on sound and tone, driving home the idea that a bright, rich, steady tone and accurate tuning are essentials to a quality musical presentation. We found that these notions are well represented in his pipes. Besides their beautiful tone, we were also immediately struck by their understated visual elegance. Tastefully turned, proportioned and appointed, they reflect the work of a skilled and confident maker. Please have a look at our listings of Ian's products and pay a visit to Ian's site.
